Welcome to The Summer Blogger Promo Tour, an event created by us ladies at The Book Bratz, whose blog you're on right now! This is a weekly tour stop where we'll be highlighting different bloggers and their fantastic book blogs all summer long. You can read more about the tour by clicking here!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to our blog for the seventh week of the Summer Blogger Promo Tour! We're nearing the end, but we still have a few more book bloggers to introduce you to throughout the rest of the month. Last week, Jen from Ink on the Shelf took a What Genre Are You? personality quiz with us and compared results. This week, Mily from The YA's Nightstand is guest-posting on what it's like to be a book blogger! Let's see what she has to say:

The Diary of a Book Blogger
By Mily

When Jess and Amber asked me to do a post on the life of a book blogger, I honestly wasn’t sure what to write. I feel that sometimes my life is a little unbalanced because of my blogging ways.

I think the first thing you need to know is WHY I started my blog. At the beginning of the year I had this sudden burst of inspiration, and after years of trying, I wrote a book. However, I’m not very good at finishing things I don’t like it when something ends. It’s shocking just how many book series I have on my shelves where I’ve read them all but the last one!

So, of course, I struggled writing the ending. But what I didn’t want to do was stop writing. I’ve done this in the past, and when I do I never go back to it. So instead, I started writing reviews and after a little while I had something that looked like a book blog. In all honesty, I stumbled upon the book blogging community and got a little taken in by it.

That was almost 6 months ago now and I’ve now stared to get into a routine where I can blog AND enjoy the real world too.
So this is a rough outline of my day:
  • I wake up – always a good start, I find!
  • Then laptop goes on and I make sure that the day’s post has gone out into the world without any problems. Followed by a little shameless promoting on social media and a good little chat on twitter.
  • Then I go and do whatever it is the real world needs me to do. (Daydreaming of book boyfriends is usually included in this time somewhere).
  • At some point during the day there will be reading. I’m on a year out from University at the moment, so I have lots of time!
  • Some more tweeting will be done – 5,000 in the last 6 months… I have a problem!!
  • Then in the evenings, before I go off to read under the covers I’ll write up a post that will usually go out a couple of weeks later.
  • Then a little more twitter time.

I love being part of this big old blogging community! And yes I do spend a lot of time on my posts; I’m not ashamed to say that I want people to like what I write, just as I love to read other blogs. I know I’m going to have to cut down a lot in September when I head back to uni so I’m just enjoying it at the moment.

One of my favourite things about blogging, which I didn’t even think about when I started The YA’s Nightstand, is the amount of time I spend talking to authors. I have serious admiration for these people as I know how much of yourself you put into a book when you’re writing it. I love being able to help spread the word about their books, even if it’s just to a couple of people – after all it’s a couple more than before!

It’s about sharing a love for books and the written word and I don’t think I’ll ever leave this community.

You’re stuck with me!

PS. I did FINALLY write the ending to my manuscript! Just in case you were wandering ;)
We'd like to give Mily a round of applause for that awesome guest post and also for agreeing to be spotlighted on the Summer Blogger Promo Tour this week! Catch up with Mily on her blog and also send her a little love through her Twitter!
